Lord Shiva
Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism, embodies the dual aspects of creation and destruction, representing the cycle of life. Revered as the Supreme Being within Shaivism, Shiva is depicted with a third eye on his forehead, symbolizing inner vision and wisdom, and a crescent moon on his matted hair, signifying time’s cyclical nature. He wears serpents and holds a trident, embodying power, protection, and balance. The sacred Damru drum in his hand represents the sound of cosmic creation. As the meditative ascetic and benevolent protector, Shiva is often seen sitting in deep contemplation on Mount Kailash, his divine abode. He is also worshipped as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer who performs the Tandava, a dance that signifies the rhythm of the universe. Temples such as Kashi Vishwanath and Kedarnath attract devotees seeking his blessings for spiritual growth, transformation, and liberation (moksha).
